How to Clean Grout Between Floor Tiles

The tiles should be cleaned regularly so it stays clean and new looking. However, simple cleaning like sweeping won’t clean the dirt build-up between the tiles, which is the grout area. It will still look messy so you have to more efforts in order to clean it. Good news, you can easily clean the grouts with the products you’re just storing at home.

Clean Grout

Using Baking Soda and Vinegar

Baking soda and vinegar solution is one of the most effective cleaners that can clean the grouts. Just mix 1 part water and 3 parts baking to make a paste. This cleaner is versatile, so it will work with any colors of grout. Use your fingers to apply the paste to the grout lines. Wear gloves for arm protection, the baking soda might irritate your skin. Put the solution in a spray bottle.

Spray the solution to the grout lines. You will then see bubbling; it lets you know that the cleaning process has begun. Once the bubbling action stops, the chemical action is done. Scrub the lines with a nylon bristled brush. Pay attention to the edges and corners of the area. Finally, mop the floor with plain water.

Using Oxygenated Bleach

Another method of grout cleaning is using oxygenated bleach. Prepare 2 cups of warm water and dissolve 2 tablespoons of oxygenated bleach. Mix the solution. Before cleaning up the entire floor, test the solution in a hidden area of the grout. Apply a small solution first. Pour the solution onto the ground. Cover the grout lines and clean one section of the floor at a time. Use a brush to scrub the grout lines. Sit for several minutes to see the best results.

To increase the cleaning power, dip the brush into the oxygenated bleach powder. If there’s a darker stain, dip the brush directly into the oxygen bleach solution. Finally, rinse the floor with warm water. Let it dry with a clean mop.

Using Hydrogen Peroxide, Baking Soda and Dish Soap

First, make a paste of the mentioned ingredients. The hydrogen peroxide will react with the baking soda and release a bleaching oxygen ion, the baking soda is a natural abrasive and the dish soap will loosen the dirt and remove the grease. Use a nylon bristled brush to apply the paste into the grout lines. Let is sit for 15 minutes. There would be a bubbling reaction once you apply the paste. Rinse the grout with hot water or warm water to remove the solution residue. Wipe the leftover residue and dirt using a rap. Gently scrub the floor with a towel. Finally, mop the floor with clean water.
